Gross Marketed Surplus (GMS) of agricultural commodities plays an important role in the economic growth of a developing country like Bangladesh. The growth of industrial as well as service sector of Bangladesh largely depends on the production as well as Gross Marketed Surplus (GMS) of the agricultural commodities. 

Availability of up-to-date and comprehensive data on gross marketed surplus is vital for sound and appropriate policy formulation and decision- making related to agricultural marketing and prices as well as imports and exports. 

The survey on Gross Marketed Surplus (GMS), the first-ever attempt of BBS, produced a wide range of data and information, which will, to a great extent, improve the knowledge and understanding of the existing situation on gross marketed surplus (actual sale) of the agricultural commodities (produced by farm households).
